I think Jesse asked Winnie if she was married because Winnie asked him if he was married. I also believe that Jesse is older then seventeen. I think since he drank from the spring, his apperance is everlasting. I also think Winnie should have never drank from the spring because Jesse warned her and I think that even though your apperance is everlasting, it brings bad luck.
007, I'm pretty sure Winnie didn't drink from the spring (yet). Sorry, but I cannot answer this question, because I went on and read ahead and pretty much know the answer.
I think Jesse asked the question because Winnie asked him the same question and I think the spring is what made Mae Tuck and her sons look the way the do forever(everlasting). So I pretty much agree with 007 on this question.
I think that jesses intention was to later on marry Winnie. I think jesses has a little crush on Winnie. I also think Winnies has a crush on Jesse. I think they will get married and have a EVERLASTING life.
I think Jesse asked Winnie if she was married because, really, there isn't much of a choice in marriage for him. He's lonely living in a house all by himself all the time, and he doesn't have anyone to marry, because they would
A) die before him, or B) figure out how creepy it was that his appearance never changed, and left him.
He can't tell anyone about the spring and marry them, because that would be a disaster. In reality, Winnie is his only option.
Great answer Piggy-O, I agree with you. I think that he realizes that anyone he gets close to will die before he does and he doesn't want to watch them get old and die while he stays young.
